The Blog is Back! Loom Bands...

Hello! I've been having some technical difficulties with the blog in the last couple of weeks, but (fingers crossed!) it seems to be back in action!

So, the year has ended and we have all said goodbye to each other and headed out into the summer holidays! Before we finished term, we had a very busy and exciting few weeks.

In the last couple of weeks we have been Loom Band crazy in St. George's Class! We followed some video instructions to try to make some complicated new designs, did some Loom Band maths (to practise our addition and learn about ratio) and had a debate about whether or not Loom Bands should be banned.

Last week, we had a visit from Dan Shepherd of FarShoreline Productions, who came and recorded our debate. Dan recorded lots of us speaking, then edited our discussion to make a short documentary. The final recording will be on the blog soon. Can you hear yourself speaking? Which side do you think won? Should Loom Bands be banned?!

Our Special Mexican Visitor

Last week we were very lucky to have had a visit from Paulina, who runs the Mexican Society at King's College University. She came to tell us all about life in Mexico and we learnt more in one afternoon than we could have possibly imagined!

Paulina has been a teacher for some years and kept us all interested and excited, with her Powerpoint presentation, props, food and her beautiful singing.

We tried some real Mexican salsa (which was green and spicy!) and some fantastic chilli sugar candy!

We looked at some beautiful craft objects from different regions of Mexico:

We were all very excited to see these objects, which are used as part of the 'Day of the Dead' celebrations that we have been learning about:

 Thank you, Paulina!

Goodbye and Thank you!

What a year we have had! It was very sad to see you all leave, but it has been a wonderful year and I am very happy to have been your teacher. I will miss you all lots- come and see me next year!

I would like to say a huge thank you to you all and your parents and families for the beautiful cards, lovely messages and very generous gifts I have received from you this week. Thank you so much, I am very grateful.

Please do come back and check the blog over the summer (and feel free to keep visiting and commenting next year!)- I will be adding some games and fun bits and pieces over the summer to keep you busy!

Thank you all for being a wonderful, energetic and inspirational class- stay safe this summer; have fun and come back in one piece!!

Goodbye and thank you,

Mrs Parrott xx

Mystery Skype

On Thursday we had another fantastic Mystery Skype lesson! We enjoyed taking turns to ask yes or no questions about the location of the 'mystery' class. We discovered that they were in Asia, and eventually narrowed down their location to India! After a few more questions, we discovered that they were in Mumbai!

We spoke to Class 4 at Sanjivani International School in Mumbai, India, and their teacher Ms Antony. They asked us some fantastic questions, such as 'Is there a nursery rhyme about your city?' and 'Are you in the country where the Industrial Revolution took place?' We were very impressed!

After we had each discovered the location of the other class, we asked each other some general questions. Class 4 asked us to sing them a nursery rhyme, so we sang them 'London Bridge is Falling Down' and 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'- they joined in too! It was incredible to sing a song with some children on the other side of the world.

Following that, the children at Sanjivani International School sang a song for us:

It was another fantastic lesson- we all enjoyed it very much!

We have another Mystery Skype session arranged for Thursday morning! Hooray! Start thinking about some useful questions to help us to discover where the other class are located...

Photographic Treasure Hunt!

This week we practised our photography skills by taking some rather sneaky pictures. Can you work out where in the school these pictures were taken? Be warned, some of them are extreme close-ups!

Leave a comment if you can guess where these photos were taken:

Emirates Cable Cars

Yesterday, all of Middle School went on a fantastic trip! We took a bus, train and tube to North Greenwich where we boarded the wonderful cable cars.

The trip across the river took about 10 minutes and we saw some fabulous views of London. We saw a jet fly overhead and land at City Airport, some Police speed boats zooming along the river and lots of skyscrapers. What else did you see?

After lunch and a play in the park, we got back on the cable cars to head home. It was a lovely sunny day and we were all happy but exhausted by the time we returned to school.

For your homework this week, we have asked you to create a picture of the view you saw from the cable car. You might want to draw your picture, paint it, make a collage or a model, or use your computer to make a picture. If you have another idea, you're welcome to try it- you can create your picture however you like!

Here are some great photos from our day to help to inspire you:
