GOOD NEWS!

The time has nearly come... after many weeks of learning lines, making costumes, designing props, singing and rehearsing, we will perform our Easter Play on Thursday.

We will perform for the school in the morning, then for families, parents and carers in the afternoon. If your family are coming to watch, they need to be at school for 2pm. The play will begin at 2:15pm.

Here are some pictures of us making our huge and beautiful advertisement for the play (come and see it hanging in the window of St. George's Class!):

Silent Movies... Take Two!

Another try... I know that some of you have had problems watching these videos at home, so let's try again! Many of you have been able to enjoy our silent movies at home, but if you were having problems viewing them before, hopefully this will solve the problem. Let me know if you can see them now- then I will know if the problem has been fixed!

It is time for the event the world has been waiting for...

The release of two of the finest movies of the year...

From the St. George Production Company, we present...

Ancient Greek Olympics

Last week, you all handed in some excellent homework projects about the Ancient Greek Olympics. You chose a sport from the original Olympics and presented what you had learned in different ways. Some children chose to use art to show what they had found, some used ICT and some made posters or booklets. Well done! Here are some excellent examples:

Our Class Poem- Death Drop

Icarus and Daedalus had just got to the roof of the palace and strapped on their wings. Icarus thought carefully about flying and falling.

After reading up to this point in the myth, we watched two video clips- one of Felix Baumgartner free falling from space and one of an eagle flying with a camera on its collar, so we could see his view point.

We then collected lots of similes and metaphors for FALLING and FLYING.

Each team chose their best similes and metaphors and wrote them onto strips of paper.

We used these fantastic metaphors and similes to create this class poem, by playing around with the order, punctuation and verses.

Can you spot a simile? Can you spot a metaphor?

Death Drop

I circle the sky like a vulture,

As fast as a hawk,

The wind’s fingers pulling my hair,

I am as happy as a bird,

I put my arms out to enjoy the ride,

The wind howls blood-curlingly in my ear.

Falling like you’re FROZEN,

As cold as winter could be,

As scary as a roller coaster,

My stomach plummets to its very depths,

Feels like my heart came out of my mouth,

Falling like space debris,

Like a bird left its home.

Rock falling to Earth,

As terrified as a bee getting squashed,

I collapse like a roof caving in.

Our First Animations

Today we used a new website called abcya/animate to create some fun animations. This was our first try, just getting used to how the tools worked and how to copy and edit frames.

Here are a few super examples:

 Headteacher's Challenge

Source: bbc.co.uk Primary History

To answer this question you will need to follow the links below about the Ancient Greeks.

The question?
There was  a large statue of a goddess on the Acropolis hill in Athens;
1. Who did the statue represent?
2. What was it made of?
3. Was it bigger or smaller than the statue of 'Christ the Redeemer' in Rio de Janeiro?

Dulwich Picture Gallery

Yesterday we had a fantastic day at Dulwich Picture Gallery. Following a lovely sunny walk through the park, we arrived at the gallery to learn about Ancient Greek art.

We looked at some beautiful paintings by Poussin, which were painted in the 17th Century, but were in the style of Roman and Ancient Greek paintings. We each chose a detail from one of the paintings to draw.

We took our drawings back to the studio, where we used egg tempera paint to complete our artwork in the style of the Ancient Greeks. Ben told us that the Ancient Greeks thought that there were 4 primary colours, can you remember what they were?

Our paintings had to be completed using only these four colours, which was quite tricky and involved lots of concentration to mix the colours we needed.

The exciting part of the morning was making our own paint! We discovered that Ancient painters found their colours in plants, rocks, rust and even burnt mummies! Some children were asked to use a pestle and mortar to crunch up charcoal into powder, then some other children spread the colour onto glass tiles. Then things got a bit slimy, as we had to break and separate eggs, so that we could pop the yolk to use to bind our paint together.

It was another wonderful trip to Dulwich Picture Gallery! What did you think? What did you enjoy? Can you remember what those four primary colours in Ancient Greece were?

Icarus Puppets

On Friday, we found out that Daedalus and Icarus had escaped from King Minos' palace. King Minos was furious! We wrote very persuasive letters from the King to try to persuade Daedalus to come back.

In the afternoon, we made these fabulous puppets of Icarus:
